TRUST REQUIRES TRANSPARENCY
In 2019, I took a leap to give up financial security. Prior to that, I had always worked a job in nonprofits with missions I believed in — but not a single job had a shape that could contain and support the fullness of my being. I longed to break free of this system, and in the summer of 2019, I harnessed the courage to do so. I left my last salaried job and decided to support my living by only doing work that answers my soul’s calling, not charging a dime, and most of all, trusting the world to support my work if they believe in it.
For the past six years, this has been working. This practice is called the gift economy.
My partner Kazu Haga does all of his work in the gift economy, and he has been a teacher and a leader in this for me. Earlier this year, he looked at me and said, “I want to transparently share the full state of our finances.” To be honest, I was scared — this is so vulnerable. And I knew he was right. This is the next growing edge in our practice of the gift economy. Starting in 2025, we will be sharing our full financial statements every quarter. Click the links below to read each statement.
